The North Transept - more info

Our virtual tour begins in the north nave transept. This was part of the thirteenth-century Early English rebuilding, following major fires in the century before.
On the eastward wall is a magnificent new fresco, painted by a Russian iconographer (Sergei Fyodorov). It was dedicated on the 24th June, 2004 - St John the Baptist's Day. Its top section portrays Jesus' Baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan. Underneath are representations of Augustine's baptism of King Ethelbert in Canterbury and the subsequent conversion and baptism of large numbers of Saxons.
The picture above shows a view from the north transept over the Pulpitum steps into the south transept, once the eastern end of the Lady Chapel. In the foreground are choir benches, designed and made by Luke Hughes. The glass in both the lower and upper windows was given in memory of Royal Engineers and features a variety of saints.
